Star Wars… Just hearing it sends happiness to my heart. Over the years Star Wars has become as dear to me as a close friend – even though they would disagree, and say I love it more than them. My dad is the biggest reason I care so much for this franchise. I grew up watching Vader be redeemed, Han telling C3PO to “never tell me the odds”, and Leia saying “I love you” in Cloud City hundreds of times over.

In March 2014, an announcement about  Episode 7: The Force Awakens was released, and I was ELATED! I honestly didn’t think we would see another Episode because of the Jar Jar fiasco…

My mind immediately started to race, and I tried to piece together what they would do and what timeline, story arc, and characters would make an appearance… I’ll admit, I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of time over the years reading books and doing research on the Extended Universe (EU). With over 250 novels (not including the junior novels), there are infinite storylines to choose from however, that number is drastically decreased as they would never make a new movie that wasn’t centred around the Skywalkers.

Would they show us Luke starting a new life with Mara Jade? Or maybe we might be privy to the Solo twins – Jacen and Jaina and the rise of Darth Caedus? None of my predictions would come true …

In late April 2014, Disney’s Lucas Films crushed my soul as they announced that the EU would no longer be cannon, and would exist only as tales in the background to make the whole “universe richer”. They also stated that the films were going to go their own way and will create the cannon material as they went.

I was crushed for two main reasons:

  1. I was saddened as so many potential story arcs would continue to be forgotten
  2. was blind and I no longer knew what was going to happen and it scared me.

I was an anxious mess on Friday, December 15th, 2017 waiting for  Episode 7 to start. Afterwards, I was surprised; surprised I really liked both the movie and its characters (despite the obvious parallels to Episode 4: A New Hope). I was also surprised to see a lot of elements taken from the EU in the movie. I will go over a lot of these elements in the next Jedi Jabber.

Please feel free to leave any questions you’d like answered in the comments below. If it’s a big question I will dedicate an entire post to it.

Until next time,
May the 4th (2017) be with you all.
